The U.S. economy is really weird now, including its electricity sector.
Consumer expenditures for all goods and services fell 13.6 percent in April as compared to March, and 16.9 percent compared to April of last year. Consumer expenditures on electricity (residential electric bills) on the other hand rose 4.6 percent in April as compared to March, and 7.5 percent compared to April of last year.
As a result, electric bills shot up to 1.69 percent of consumer expenditures for all goods and services. The electric bills percentage hasn’t been this high since December 2010.
