August Peak

The coincident peak demand this month in the continental U.S. has been 695,594 megawatts-hours, which happened at hour eighteen Eastern Time on the twenty-fourth of August, a Monday. This was almost identical to the coincident peak demand last August, in 2019. Then, the peak was 695,681 megawatt-hours.

So the August peak this year is just eighty-seven megawatt-hours short of last August’s peak. That’s a difference of only one and a quarter hundredth of a percent, which is really tiny. Plus, there’s still a few days left this August to beat last August’s peak, including a Monday — typically a high-load day — on the thirty-first of August.
